My paintings are inspired by the untamed natural environment, including the elemental landscapes of Iceland and the high mountains of the Himalayas.  They show structure in the natural landscape, including both monumental features and small details, scouring lines of glacial moraine, the erosion of estuaries and vast lava flows as well as light on mountain pools, patterns of bark on trees and ice formations on grass.

All the paintings start with an inspirational moment in which the effects of light intensify an image.

Most importantly they celebrate the beauty of the natural environment and attempt to express my love of wild places.

I use pastel in all the paintings because of the vibrancy of the medium and the spontaneity of the method.
